Food Hygiene Enforcement sanctions

 Who should attend? 

This course will be of benefit to Food Enforcement Officers who have responsibility for delivering Food Hygiene Official Controls. 

Aims

The course aims to provide delegates with the necessary skills and confidence to use food hygiene enforcement sanctions in an appropriate way

Objectives

 This course will endeavour to:

Review the legal framework and relevant guidance.

Consider appropriate use of powers.

Provide delegates with guidance on:

o Drafting notices

o Making court applications

Discuss enforcement strategies

 

Authorised Officer Competencies

 Completion of this course will assist towards demonstrating competency under the following headings of the Food Law Competency Framework – 

4.4 – Able to determine the appropriate course of action to remedy non-compliance, including when it is appropriate to escalate enforcement action.

5.1 – Can clearly differentiate between legal requirements and recommendations of good practice by avoiding gold plating and ‘regulatory creep’. Can provide advice and enforce based on levels of compliance with regard to consistency and proportionality based on the hierarchy of risk.

5.2 – Understands levels of authorisation, enforcement policies and procedures for appeal.

5.3 – Understands the legal framework with regard to the use of enforcement powers including the role of Primary Authorities and Home Authorities.

5.4 – Can demonstrate the understanding of how to serve Notices.
