Advanced Approved Establishments

This course will be of benefit to Food Officers who have responsibility for delivering Food Hygiene Official Controls. Officers should have a good understanding of Regulation (EC) 853/2004 and may find our "Approved Establishments" course a useful introduction to the topic. 

Aims

To provide delegates with guidance on the identification, enforcement and audit of approved establishments. 

Objectives

This course will seek to:

Provide delegates with the confidence and skills to assess establishments for approval. 

Review the application and approval process.

Discuss the approach to conditional approval.

Consider practical audit and enforcement in approved establishments.


Authorised Officer Competencies

Completion of this course will assist towards demonstrating competency under the following headings of the Food Law Competency Framework – 

• 4.2 – Can determine and identify hazards and risks that occur in establishments and products. Understands the principles or risk assessment related to food types; processing methods and products. 

• 4.3 – Understands relevant EU and National Food Hygiene or standards legislation and can advise on their application. Understands how to assess compliance with the requirements of EC and National food hygiene and standards legislation with further reference to the Food Law Code of Practice and Practice Guidance.

• 4.4 – Able to determine the appropriate course of action to remedy non-compliance, including when it is appropriate to escalate enforcement action. 

• 4.6 – Understanding of the common food types and understanding of hazards associated with their use.
